Bob’s Burgers is THE BEST. I’ve held this opinion for nearly ten years now, long before I came to the Church. It’s such a wonderful story of a family with a dream. There’s love, laughter, and genuine relationships, and all the hijinks are held up by a rock-solid conviction that there is no better way to live life. I was instantly drawn to the warmth and joyful spirit of the Belcher family, and the characters have consistently been a delight in my world.
So imagine my joy when I came to Christ and discovered that Bob’s Burgers is EVEN BETTER than I ever knew! As I read Scripture and grew in my faith, I realized that the things I love about the show are all ways that it perfectly illustrates the teachings of the Catholic Church. Bob’s Burgers is full of deeply Catholic values and messages on marriage, parenting, career, friendship, community, and more. As much as I thought I enjoyed it, I really had no idea what Jesus could show me about love through this show.
There is so much to the theology of Bob’s Burgers that it deserves a multi-part series analysis. In honor of February as the month celebrating the Holy Family, Part 1 discusses the sacrament of marriage, the harms of divorce, and the Belcher family as the glue that holds their community together.
I hope you enjoy this fun series as much as I do, and may the Lord bless us all and give us strength to faithfully live out our vocations!
Gloria in excelsis Deo!
